Trust But Verify

Your prompts and your choice of LLM matter in what you are doing. This is a very real and clear artistic example of that.

Today I set out to write an article to illustrate the point that lagging indicators are often more useful than prevailing indicators. I will spare you the details on that because that is for another article because this image generation/LLM debacle made me change it. What I , instead, want to focus on here is how vastly different the results were when the exact same prompt was given to 3 different models.

The first picture is from ChatGPT and it pretty much knocks it out of the park. It is exactly what I wanted.

The second picture is Gemini’s new Nano Banana 2, which I had high hopes for. While the image is in the ballpark, it completely misses the mark because the waves are not even in the water. They look like some sort of heavily suspended idea floating in the air, which is not what I wanted.

And the third. Yeah. What is going on, Claude? You are getting all sorts of praise for the work you do with CoWork and you give me that? What in the world is that? It is almost comical how bad it is.

My point here is this. If you do not even know what the picture is supposed to look like, maybe the Claude result gets you where you want to go. However, as you can see, each model gives a wildly different version.

So the next time you are using an LLM for tax advice, ideation, or anything else, make sure you trust but verify. This does not mean ChatGPT is the best overall or even the best for image generation. It simply means that you can put the exact same prompt into 3 different models and get 3 completely different answers.

And on a related note, if you are using LLMs for tax advice, you may not even know what the correct “picture” is supposed to look like. When that happens, it becomes much harder to recognize when the answer is off target. And if the response is significantly wrong, you can easily find yourself heading down the wrong path or making a costly mistake.

Trust but verify.

And btw, here was the prompt i put into all the models -
